Hopkinsville Council To Appoint Committee On Pension Funding

The Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole voted Thursday night to forward to city council a proposal to appoint an ad hoc working committee to study future funding of the city’s pension plan.

Mayor Carter Hendricks says the pension issue is placing pressure on the city’s budget. He proposed bringing to council a list of names of individuals who would serve on the ad hoc committee, which would look into the city’s operations and study its pension obligations for the next few years.

City Financial Officer Robert Martin had previously told council the city’s pension cost would increase around $900,000 over the next five years.

The committee also agreed to forward to the city council a resolution authorizing the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority to use $2.2 million in residual funds for a project on Eagle Way,

That was General Manager Derrick Watson who said they opened bids for the project on February 20. He also noted no additional rate increase would be needed because the project is within their budget.

In other business, Community and Development Services Director Steve Bourne proposed the city apply for a $250,000 Recreational Trails Program grant, requiring a 20% percent, to use toward the construction of a new trail.
