A former Crofton volunteer firefighter charged in connection to setting fire to a vacant building in August 2017 appeared in Christian Circuit Court for formal sentencing Wednesday morning.
Court officials say Dakota Oglesby and his defense attorney appeared before Judge John Atkins and was given felony probation after entering into a plea deal in December of last year. As part of the plea deal, Oglesby pled guilty to second-degree facilitation of arson and third-degree burglary charges. Former Commonwealth’s Attorney Lynn Pryor previously told the News Edge her office recommended a five-year sentence that could be diverted to probation if Oglesby paid $5,000 restitution prior to his formal sentencing.
Oglesby and three other Crofton firefighters, Jeremy Marlar, Glen McGee, and Dylan Hodge were charged after state police reported the four men were seen on surveillance footage setting fire to a vacant building at the corner of East Main and East Mill streets in Crofton on August 20, 2017.
Hodge entered into a plea agreement and entered a guilty plea in August 2018 to a lesser charge of second-degree facilitation to arson and received a five-year sentence which was diverted to probation if he testified against Marlar and McGee during their trial.
During a jury trial in Christian Circuit Court in August 2018, Marlar and McGee were convicted of second-degree arson and other charges and were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
