Pennyrile KY Colonels Hosts Annual Derby Day Breakfast

More than seventy people attended the annual Pennyrile Kentucky Colonels Derby Breakfast held Saturday morning at the Pioneers Complex in Hopkinsville.

During the breakfast, which has become a 30+ year tradition for the organization, members honored longtime Kentucky Colonel and well-known community member Paul Mason.

Mason passed away on November 16, 2018, and was a key member to the organization and others in Christian County.

Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks spoke to the members in attendance to honor Mason’s legacy to the community.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble hopes the attendance for the annual breakfast will continue to grow to what is used to be, years ago.

Pennyrile Kentucky Colonel Alan Watts notes proceeds from the breakfast will be given to the Pennyrile Allied Community Services to be used for their Meals on Wheels, a program that Mason fully supported.

Guests who attended were encouraged to wear their best derby day attire, with Carrie Mills (age 16 and younger) and Kate Russell (age 17 and older) winning the “Best Derby Day Hat” prizes.
