Kids between the ages of 10 and 12 who may need a positive summer experience are being invited to apply to attend the Kentucky State Police’s Trooper Island in July.
KSP Public Information Officer for Post 2 in Madisonville, Rob Austin, says that Trooper Island is a positive experience that helps teach kids leadership qualities and how to be good citizens.

He adds that the camp is designed for 10 to 12-year-olds and those in Posts 1 and 2 will attend the camp from July 15th through the 19th, with the deadline to apply in June.

Trooper Austin notes that all children who attend the camp get to attend for free thanks to donations and year-long fundraisers, including the raffle of a car. He emphasizes that the camp does not use any tax dollars and this year they are raffling off a 2019 Corvette Stingray.He says raffle tickets are $10 and there will only be a certain amount sold.

Trooper Austin expresses that the camp is a great way for children to see that there’s something outside of their current home life.
