Trigg School Board Members Approve New Superintendent Contract For Hamby

During a special called meeting Tuesday night, Trigg County school board members narrowly voted to grant Superintendent Travis Hamby a new three-year contract.

The contract approved would go into effect on July 1 and last through June 30, 2022, with the option to extend the contract for an additional year at any time the board makes the decision.

Hamby notes there will not be many changes made to the new contract.

The new contract includes no increase in salary for the coming year.

Two other changes to the contract would include a new way Hamby could notify school board members of an extended absence from the school district and the evaluation process for the Superintendent.

Clara-Beth Hyde made the motion to approve the contract. The vote for the contract was approved 3-2, with Theresa Allen and Charlene Sheehan casting the nay votes.

In other business, members voted to table making a decision regarding the 2019-2020 school year general liability insurance provider until a special called meeting on May 30. During the last meeting, it was approved to go into a competitive negotiation for the three insurance companies who provided bids as all three did not meet the minimum coverage requirements they wanted for the district. Hamby and other school officials need additional time to look into the extra details asked for from the companies.

The May 30th meeting will also feature members looking into responses they receive for the request for proposals that are submitted for the school board attorney position. Current attorney Howell Hopson and his firm Hopson and Parris recently announced they would not be seeking renewal of their contract that expires on June 30.
