Jobless Rates Fell In 8 Pennyrile Counties In April

Unemployment rates fell in eight of the nine counties in the Pennyrile District between April 2018 and April 2019 and stayed the same in one county according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

The unemployment rate in Christian County during this time period stayed the same at 4.7 percent.

Todd County’s jobless rate was the lowest in the nine-county Pennyrile District at 3.6 percent in April of this year, down from 3.9 percent for the same time period last year.

Lyon County had the second lowest unemployment rate in April at 4.0 percent, compared to 4.7 percent in April 2018, while Hopkins County posted a 4.1 percent jobless rate, down from 4.4 percent.

The jobless rate in Trigg County dropped to 4.4 percent, compared to 4.7 percent in April of last year.

Caldwell County’s unemployment rate fell to 4.5 percent from 4.6 percent, while Crittenden County’s jobless rate dropped to 4.5 percent from 5.1 percent in April 2018.

The jobless rate in Livingston County during this time period dropped to 5.3 percent from 7.3 percent, and Muhlenberg County’s unemployment rate fell to 5.6 percent from 6.6 percent.

Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 89 counties from April 2018 to April 2019, rose in 21 and stayed the same in 10 counties.

Woodford County continued to post the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.7 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.5 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
