2nd Brigade Combat Team Welcomes New Commander

Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team “Strike”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) welcomed a new commander Friday morning.

During a ceremony on the division parade field, Fort Campbell officials say Colonel Joseph Escandon, who has commanded the unit for the last two years, passed the mantle of command to Colonel Michael Kovacevi.

The new commander, originally from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry from the United States Military Academy in 1997. Kovacevi has served in many roles and received several awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge, just to name a few.

Members of the 2nd Brigade, along with a delegation from Hopkinsville, recently commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion at ceremonies in France.
