The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Monday that the state is fully compliant with REAL ID Act regulations following a pilot launch.
The pilot launch of new driver’s licenses, permits, and IDs took place in Franklin and Woodford counties. The new designation serves as the state’s last necessary extension and allows residents to use their current state driver’s license and the new standard credential to board domestic flights and visit military bases until federal enforcement begins October 1, 2020.
Department of Vehicle Regulation Commissioner Matt Henderson notes they are continuing to fine-tune the system before deploying to other counties so there is more of a seamless experience when it’s time to renew. A phased, county-by-county rollout will begin after the pilot period ends.
