Trigg School Board To Look Into Special Way To Honor Alumni

Trigg County school board members heard about a special way they could honor and remember alumni during their meeting Thursday evening.

Trigg County magistrate Mike Wright spoke to board members about the idea of starting a hall of fame for distinguished alumni. He notes it would be a win for the district in two areas.

Wright adds it could be a great, minimal financial investment for the district.

Board members agreed it sounded like a great idea, with no action taken. Interim Superintendent Tim McGinnis says they are going to work on a formal proposal for the board’s approval at a future meeting.

In other business, members approved a policy change for the 2020 fiscal year concerning enforcement of a new policy involving tobacco usage for guests. McGinnis says the original policy from the Kentucky School Board Association would have made it the responsibility of all staff members in the district to enforce tobacco usage rules during events that take place on campus.

School board attorney Jack Lackey, Jr. confirms that the rule would only apply to visitors and tobacco usage would only be allowed during special events and those areas would be marked with proper signage. McGinnis notes if the rule becomes an issue, the board would have to re-visit the policy.

In other action, board members approved a motion to cover the costs of an adult meal, either breakfast or lunch, for on-duty law enforcement officers if they eat with students during the current school year.
