Bevin Says State Pension Issues Need To Be Fixed

Governor Matt Bevin says the state has a pension issue that needs to be fixed, regardless if he’s re-elected for another term.

He says the state has more retirees than workers and that is part of the issue with the current pension system.

Bevin adds he was the last governor that could have “kicked the can” down the road.

He notes there is no way they can continue to offer future state employees the same benefits that have previously been offered.

The top amount employees currently contribute is 13% of their take-home pay.Bevin used the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System as an example of the issue they are facing.

Bevin spoke to constituents during a stop at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex Monday morning, where he also spoke on the tax issues that need to be improved in order to be more competitive with states like Tennessee.
