Hoptown Half & 5K Proceeds To Be Donated To United Way

Officials with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation announced late Wednesday afternoon that the inaugural Hoptown Half and 5K will donate over $14,000 to United Way of the Pennyrile. Superintendent Tab Brockman reports proceeds from the event brought in a total of $14,131 which will be officially donated to the nonprofit organization during a ceremony in the near future.

He says the inaugural joint road race will also donate $1,000 to the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association due to the group’s flexibility in moving the date of its annual Alzheimer’s Walk in order to accommodate the Planters Bank Hoptown Half Marathon and Jennie Stuart Health Hoptown 5K races.

Brockman indicates the Hoptown Half and 5K planning committee has set the date for the second annual version of the Hoptown Half and 5K event to be held Saturday, September 19, 2020, in Hopkinsville. He says the pre-race Expo will return to Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex the day before.

Next year’s race will be a part of a soon-to-be-named western Kentucky tri-state series, joining the David Taylor Chrysler Murray Half Marathon and the Mercy Health Iron Mom Half Marathon in Paducah.
