Man And Juvenile Charged With Murder At APSU Campus

A man and juvenile have been charged in connection to a murder that occurred at the campus of Austin Peay State University Sunday night.

Clarksville Police report Joshua Watkins and a 17-year old juvenile, both of Memphis, are charged with criminal homicide in the death of 22-year old Serdarin Brown at Hand Village Avenue.

Officers responded to a shots fired call around 10:10 Sunday night at Hand Village Avenue and found that Brown had already been transported by a vehicle to Tennova Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the investigation determined Brown was involved in a drug deal to sell a small amount of marijuana to someone at Hand Village Avenue.  A witness reportedly told police the juvenile came up to the driver’s door of a car for the drug deal, pulled out a handgun, and demanded Brown’s things while Watkins opened the passenger door and started rummaging through the vehicle. At some point, police say Brown was shot. Two spent shell casings were found at the scene by APSU Police.

Police say the juvenile and Watkins, who set up the drug deal, were in Clarksville visiting friends and were found at the apartments on Nolen Road where they were arrested.

Watkins is lodged in the Montgomery County Jail with no bond and the 17-year old was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
