While everyone’s eyes and ears were on the results of the General Election Tuesday night, Hopkinsville City Council met in regular session and approved a permanent four-way stop on Pyle Lane and passed the second reading of the pedestrian and traffic safety ordinance.
Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would establish a permanent four-way stop at Pyle Lane and Millbrooke Drive. The four-way stop was put in place to help traffic flow while the bridge on Millbrooke Drive was being replaced by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Now that construction is complete and the bridge has reopened ahead of schedule, Mayor Carter Hendricks said they have received positive feedback about making the four-way stop on Pyle Lane permanent.
Council also approved an amendment to the smoking on public property ordinance to now include electronic smoking devices and that no person shall smoke within any public transit shelter, or within close proximity.
In other business, Council passed the second reading of an ordinance for pedestrian and traffic safety by a vote of 9-2, with Councilmen Darvin Adams and Wendell Lynch casting the no votes. The ordinance came about after concerns from the public of panhandling in Hopkinsville on several arterial roadways.
And Council recognized the Distinguished Young Women and a new Hopkinsville Police Officer, Patrick Linane was sworn-in.
The next Hopkinsville City Council meeting will be Tuesday night, November 19, at 6:00 at the Municipal Center Council Chamber.
