Handy also declared his candidacy on a social media post saying “the great people of Ward 12 deserve a fighter, an advocate and someone that will do more than occupy a seat on the council”. Handy went on to say “he will work hard to ensure the concerns of individuals in Ward 12 are being addressed at every City Council meeting”.

Brooks, who has not filed to run for re-election as of Monday, has served on City Council from 1992 through 2006 and again since 2009. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Committee of the Whole and is a member of the Long Range Planning and Coordination Committee and the Western Hills Municipal Golf Course Board of Directors.

The deadline for candidates to file for Hopkinsville City Council is January 10th.
