A longtime teacher and public-school advocate from Hopkinsville has thrown her hat in the ring to run for the 8th district seat on the state House of Representatives.
Democrat Pam Dossett filed her paperwork Thursday at the Secretary of State’s office to run for the seat, currently held by Republican Walker Thomas, who has served since 2016.
Dossett says “the last few years have not been easy for teachers or public schools, but at the same time, this adversity has shown us just how strong we actually are and what we can achieve when we are united.” Dossett notes she’s “proud to be part of that effort and is eager to build on that work as a legislator. When our schools succeed, all of Kentucky succeeds.”
Dossett has the support of House Democratic Floor Leader Joni Jenkins, who has praised her willingness to take on this challenge.
Dossett has worked as a teacher at Sinking Fork, Holiday, and Highland Elementary schools for the last 18 years. She has also taught students in Louisville and Dallas, Texas.
She is married to Nelson Dossett, owner of an insurance company in Hopkinsville and together they have four daughters whose ages range from 16 to 20.
The 8th district represents portions of Trigg and Christian counties.
