Sheriff Barnes Excited About 2020 For Trigg Department

After his first year being the Sheriff of Trigg County, Jason Barnes says he is looking forward to continuing his work in the community.

Barnes, who completed his first year December 1, 2019, says it was a great year.

He adds one of his goals, implemented on his first day, was making sure the county had an officer on-duty 24/7.

His office recently filled an open position and is now at full staff, but that doesn’t mean they can answer every call right away.

Barnes notes one highlight of 2019 was getting Kratos, the department K-9 who works with Sergeant David Tomlinson.

Barnes says one thing they would like to stress is to remember to lock your vehicles.

The department assisted the Cadiz Police Department in arresting two individuals in a case of a stolen truck last week. The truck was stolen from the Dodge Store in Hopkinsville after the keys were left in it.

Barnes also announced last week the implementation of a Highway Safety Grant in the amount of $11,000, that will be used to pay deputies overtime to monitor high traffic areas for speeders and setup traffic safety checkpoints.
