Democrat incumbent candidate for Ward 3, Don Ahart has withdrawn from the Hopkinsville City Council race.

In a statement emailed to the News Edge Thursday morning, Ahart says “due to personal health concerns, I have withdrawn as a candidate for Hopkinsville City Council, Ward 3.”

Ahart has served on City Council since 2009. He served as Mayor Pro Tem for two years, and City Council Presiding Officer. He has also served as Committee of the Whole chairman and held many positions on several boards including the Heritage Christian Academy Board of Directors, Hopkinsville Cable Television Oversight Authority, Economic Development Council, Ambulance Board, Chamber of Commerce Board, the Board of Appeals, and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program Board.  Ahart currently is a member of the Christian County Senior Citizens Center Board, Westwood Senior Homes Board, and Surface and Stormwater Utility Board.

In his statement, Ahart thanked the many individuals who have supported him the past eleven years and wished the best and looks forward to its continued “forward movement”.

With Ahart’s withdrawal, there will not be a Democrat Primary as Aletha West was the only other candidate to file for the Ward 3 seat. Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries says Independent candidates have until June 2nd to file to challenge West for the Ward 3 seat.
