Hopkinsville City Council approved a municipal order naming a presiding officer during a special called meeting Saturday morning.
City Administrative Officer Troy Body tells the News Edge council voted for Wendell Lynch to become the presiding officer, meaning Carter Hendricks is no longer mayor. Electing a presiding officer is among the steps Hopkinsville City Council must take in order to select a new mayor.
Hendricks stepped down as mayor effective January 31 to become the Executive Director of the South West Kentucky Economic Development Council.
City council members have until March 1 to select a new mayor or one will be appointed by Governor Andy Beshear. Whoever is selected will serve until the November General Election when a new mayor is elected to finish out Hendricks’ term.
Body adds the council also heard presentations from Retired Military Colonel Matthew Bradford and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.
