YMCA Hosts Inaugural Polar Plunge (w/VIDEO)

The air and water temperature were about 10 degrees above freezing, but that didn’t stop anyone from diving in and immersing themselves in the Hopkinsville-Christian County Family YMCA pool during the inaugural Polar Bear Plunge Saturday morning.

Program Director Joe Wilson tells the News Edge they raised a good amount of money.

The event served as a kickoff for their annual campaign, which is raising money for various programs.

Before the big jump, the University Heights Academy Baseball team was presented with the group award for raising the most money – $500. Jane Reyes was presented the individual award for raising $500, as well, with the Cool School award going to South Christian Elementary for raising $1,144. Teachers from South Christian Elementary also won the Best Costume award.
