Two Princeton Residents Facing Charges, Including Arson

James Butler, Jr.

Two Princeton residents are facing various charges, including arson, wanton endangerment, and drug charges, following an incident early Monday morning.

Princeton Police Chief Chris King states that officers responded to a complaint at a residence on North Plum Street in reference to a fire being set on the front porch. He adds that initial information found that damage had occurred to the residence from gunshots as well as from the fire.

Chief King notes that there were two suspects that developed as a result of the investigation with one suspect, 30-year-old James A. Butler Jr, found hiding in an attic of a residence on Cooper Circle. Butler was allegedly found to be in possession of a backpack that contained marijuana, scales, and a handgun. A gas can was also found in the attic near the backpack.

Butler was taken into custody for multiple warrants from different counties and was also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree arson, trafficking in marijuana, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, and various other drug-related offenses.

Chief King states that the second suspect, 20-year-old Jacori L. Thompson, was also later located by officers. Through investigation, Thompson was found to be complicit with the case and was arrested and subsequently charged with first-degree complicity to arson and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Butler was extradited to the Crittenden County Detention Center while Thompson was lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
