Hopkinsville City Council Presiding Officer Wendell Lynch took the oath of office Sunday afternoon to become the next Mayor of Hopkinsville.
The oath was administered by his brother former Christian County District Judge Arnold Lynch at the Memorial Building Sunday afternoon.
Prior to swearing in his brother, Judge Lynch said administering this oath was special.
A sizeable crowd of friends, family, and local officials were on hand for the ceremony.
After taking the oath, Lynch said there are a number of people who helped guide him in the decision to consider becoming the next mayor of Hopkinsville.
Lynch added he is all in with his commitment to being mayor.
He said it is important to encourage others and work together for a better for Hopkinsville.
Lynch was elected mayor by his fellow council members Tuesday, February 18, by an unanimous vote. He will officially take office on March 1.
Lynch will serve as Hopkinsville Mayor until a special election in November to fill remainder of Carter Hendricks’ term. Hendricks stepped down February 1 to become the new South West Kentucky EDC Director.
