As this weekend brings Easter and other religious holidays, Governor Andy Beshear says anyone who attends a mass gathering or in-person church service this weekend will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.
During his Friday afternoon update, Beshear says Kentucky State Police will record the license plates of any attendees of mass gatherings they are made aware of and give them to local health departments.
Beshear says this is a way to make sure they can stop the spread of COVID-19. He adds he’s appreciative of faith leaders who have taken action to host virtual services through the pandemic.
Additionally, Beshear says the four medical students from the University of Kentucky helping at River’s Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa with their increase of cases, received a warm welcome Thursday.
242 new cases were confirmed during Friday’s update, making it the highest number of new cases reported since the pandemic began. Of the new confirmed cases; 15 came from Hopkins, 9 from Christian, 5 from Trigg, 3 in Calloway and Lyon, and 1 in Caldwell and Todd. The cases reported Friday have already been reported by each local health department.
11 new deaths were reported Friday, bringing the state total to 90, with one of the deaths being an 80-year old male from Hopkins County.
