Hopkinsville Community College will receive over $1.39 million in emergency financial aid from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help students who college officials say have been hit hard with illness and job loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HCC is one of 16 Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) colleges to receive a portion of $36 million, ranging from $800,000 to more than than $5 million passed by Congress last week.
KCTCS President Jay K. Box expressed his gratitude to the entire Kentucky Congressional delegation for their work on this important legislation. He also said they appreciate U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell’s leadership to help provide these much-needed resources for students and higher education institutions in Kentucky.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, this emergency financial aid can be used by students for course materials, technology, housing, food, healthcare and childcare costs. This week, KCTCS officials say they should receive further information and guidance on when and how the funds will be distributed to students.
