The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library (HCCPL) and the Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County have teamed up to make face mask extenders for essential workers in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Library Operations Director Tiffany Luna obtained a template for the mask extenders and started printing the plastic items with the library’s 3d printer last week.

DeeAnna Sova, executive director at the library, says the post of the extenders was shared on social media Monday and immediately created a buzz. She adds it’s important to them to be able to give back to the community, especially health-related organizations and those considered essential employees that are keeping our community going. She says the community is very supportive of the library and they are glad to have the ability to provide this small service.

Sova says the demand for the mask extenders grew so quickly she contacted Terrence Davis, the executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, and asked if he would like to work to keep up with the need. Davis agreed and says the community does a lot for the Boys & Girls Club and the organization is honored to return the favor.

The mask extenders are designed for face masks that fit over the ear, providing relief as the mask loops fit on the extender.

If there are essential businesses, either in the healthcare industry or other frontline essential organizations, that would benefit from the mask extenders, you can email director@hccpl.org.
