Trigg County school board members approved action to open the Trigg Tots facility when classes resume for the next school year during their Thursday evening virtual meeting.
Trigg Tots Director Molly Oliver told board members, if they open, there will be several changes they will have to implement.
Under current guidelines, children will not be allowed in groups of ten or more. Oliver notes the facility currently has three classrooms and they will have to use temporary walls to divide the rooms to make five, to take care of about 46 children on a daily basis. The temporary walls will be purchased with CARES Act funding the district recently received. The funding will also pay for other personal protection equipment the facility needs.
Oliver adds with their budget restrictions for the school year they cannot afford to feed the children, so parents will have to bring meals for them daily. The funding normally used for food will have to be diverted to cover staffing costs.
The hours of operation for the facility will also reduce by 30 minutes each day and will close at 4:00 PM.
The board approved to open the facility which mainly serves faculty that work for the district. Those who bring their children pay a weekly fee to the program.
In other board action, members approved student fees, with minimal changes from the 2019-20 school year. The exact student fees will be printed in each school’s student handbook.
Assistant Superintendent Beth Sumner also told board members about a family input survey. The survey is seeking input to construct plans on how to return back to school safely. The survey is open until Friday, June 19, and can be accessed here.
The board also awarded contracts for physical exams for employees to Trigg County Primary Care and exams for bus drivers to Foundations Primary Care at the cost of $30 each.
School board attorney Jack Lackey, Jr. was presented a two-year contract extension for his services in representing the district. Lackey was hired as board attorney on June 13, 2019, and began the job on July 1, 2019, with an initial year contract.
