Governor Andy Beshear reminded Kentuckians Saturday to monitor the air quality over the next week and provided an update of the latest COVID-19 numbers in the state.
The governor said state Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack had warned Kentuckians on Friday that air quality in the state may be poor the next three to seven days due to the enormous Saharan dust plume moving across the southern United States.
Governor Beshear Kentuckians absolutely need to be cautious this weekend and next week and monitor the air quality index in our area. If needed, he said to limit your time outdoors.
As of Saturday afternoon, the governor reported there were 316 new cases, raising the statewide overall total of COVID-19 cases to 15,167 since March. Of those cases, at least 3,730 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
Governor Beshear said this virus is not going away yet, and we are seeing numbers spiking in states all across the county. He added residents need to be vigilant so that doesn’t happen here in Kentucky.
He also reported a 78-year old woman from Fayette County had died Saturday, raising the state’s death toll to 554.
To date, officials said there have been at least 391,765 coronavirus tests performed in the state.
