Capitol Cinemas in Princeton May Be Forced to Close

Capitol Cinemas may be closing indefinitely due to financial hardships brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

In a post on social media Monday afternoon owner Heidi Boyd stated the theater can no longer hang on financially and will need to close temporarily or permanently. She added they will show movies as regular through Thursday and will show two more free movies, Despicable Me 2 on July 11th and Despicable Me 3 on July 18th, with doors opening each Saturday at 12:30PM for a 1PM showing. The films will be screened in all three cinemas to seat up to 175 people.

Boyd stated they will also be hosting curbside popcorn sales both Saturdays from 3 until 8PM to help get rid of products and raise money to go towards past due bills and an upcoming insurance payment of $2,500. She noted she will also begin looking for a buyer for the theater, which reopened about 24 years ago.

In the post Boyd explained her biggest concern is making sure her employees swiftly find new jobs and expressed her immense gratitude for the support of the local community that has allowed her to be successful for so many years.
