Paducah’s beloved Barbecue on the River has been canceled.
West Kentucky Star reports Executive Director Susie Coiner confirmed Tuesday that after conversations with the City of Paducah, local and state health officials, as well as other partners, it became clear that it will not be possible for the event to take place.
Coiner said the health and safety of their attendees, vendors, participants, and volunteers are of the utmost importance to them.
She added the Barbecue on the River Board is developing an alternative event called “BBQ OFF the River”, which will take place from September 24 to 26, with more information forthcoming. Officials expect the festival to return to Paducah’s Riverfront next year.
