Motorists traveling around Hopkinsville may need to find alternate routes around town due to some scheduled repair work on rail crossings that will force the closure of some streets next week.
City officials announced Wednesday afternoon that CSX will close the 9th Street rail crossing near Whistlestop Donuts from 5:00 Monday morning through Tuesday until the work is complete. Officials say the closure is needed to prepare for repairs and improvements to various street crossings along the rail line starting in mid-August. Traffic will need to detour via Campbell, 7th, Clay, and Liberty streets.
According to city officials, additional rail crossing closures are also in the works that include the closure of East 4th Street on Tuesday and Wednesday as well as East 1st Street on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
Officials say the scheduled street closures are weather permitting.
