Cadiz City Council approved incentives during Tuesday night’s meeting that will open the door for two new restaurants in the city.
Council members voted unanimously to approve the incentive package that will allow a Senior Lopez Mexican restaurant and a Bambino’s Pizza to be built near the intersection of Old Highway 68 and Glenwood Mill Road. Owner Elbert Moore says they are looking forward to building the new restaurants.
Moore says they are hoping to have the new restaurants open early next year.
Builder Jason McCraw says work will likely begin very soon.
Moore and McCraw say they both have family ties to Trigg County, which was among the reasons for choosing to open new restaurants in the community.
Cadiz Mayor Todd King says the new restaurants are good news for the city and county.
King says he was pleased Cadiz City Council voted to offer incentives for the new restaurants that will bring more jobs to the community.
The incentives were approved following a nearly hour-long executive session involving a presentation by Moore and McCraw to council members. Moore and McCraw said they chose Cadiz and Trigg County because of their family connections and potential for growth of new businesses in the community.
In other business, Cadiz City Council approved bids to demolish a house of Jefferson Street that was destroyed by fire earlier this year and a dilapidated home on McRidley Street. Cadiz Code Enforcement Officer Charles Hiter recommended the properties be demolished because of the danger they pose. The owner of the Jefferson Street home will repay the city of Cadiz for the demolition. There is some question as to who owns the home of McRidley Street.
Cadiz Public Works Director Kerry Fowler reported that contractors will begin turning on operating systems in the new water treatment plant later this month. He says plans still call for the new facility to be producing treated water for city residents in early October.
