Over 500 runners and walkers participated in the 2nd annual Planters Bank Hoptown Half-Marathon and Jennie Stuart Health 5K, with a new event this year — Wally’s Walkers 1-Miler.
Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says it was a beautiful morning for the event and everyone followed the safety measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He adds they had a total of 565 participants.

The Wally’s Walkers 1-Miler was added to this year’s half marathon and 5K to honor former mayor and community leader Wally Bryan. Brockman says they are excited about the funds raised for Challenge House.

Byran passed away unexpectedly in May at the age of 73. He previously served as mayor of Hopkinsville from 1990 until 1998. Bryan later founded Challenge House, a project he was very passionate about and continued to volunteer his time until his death.
