A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Ruff Park Saturday morning to celebrate the Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth Baseball League’s restored fields after a tornado caused significant damage in mid-January.
The event was held on one of the newly restored fields at the park. Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth Baseball League President Jonathan Zordel was joined at home plate by Adam Erdman of Sparkling Ice, Mayor Wendell Lynch, and Christian County Magistrate Mark Cansler.
As the News Edge previously reported, Zordel informed magistrates at a July fiscal court meeting that the youth league had received a donation from beverage brand Sparkling Ice, based in Seattle, Washington, as part of the company’s Cheers to You Beautification Initiative.
Zordel said the January tornado devastated the park. He pointed out the park was covered by insurance which helped rebuild the fences, backstops, repair the bleachers and rework its grounds and dugouts. He added a representative of Sparkling Ice reached out to the youth league and offered to assist in restoring the fields and replace the natural dirt.

Mayor Lynch said the progress that has been made refurbishing the fields has been amazing. He expressed his gratitude to Sparkling Ice’s partnership with the county government the youth league board.
Mayor Lynch and Squire Cansler then read and presented a proclamation to Adam Erdman, the Sales Director with Sparkling Ice. Erdman said Sparkling Ice is passionate about giving back and supporting communities.
After the ribbon was snipped, two park signs were unveiled that Sparkling Ice donated.
The Super Saturday event at Ruff Park also included contests, activities, photo booths, and baseball games throughout the day on the newly refurbished fields.
