Trigg County Clerk Carmen Finley is reminding residents that nearly 2,000 vehicle registrations in the county remain unpaid beyond their original expiration date.
According to Finley’s office, more than 530 registrations due in March alone remain unpaid in Trigg County. Another 375 from August are still due with time running out for those vehicle owners to pay their registration and taxes without incurring a penalty.
Earlier this year, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet granted a grace period for all vehicle and vessel registrations and disabled parking placards administered by county clerks or the Cabinet. That window was created to ease the burden on those adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and continues with no penalties through the close of business on Tuesday, October 6.
Finley says beginning Wednesday, October 7, any unpaid registration or placard due at the end of September or earlier will be considered past due and a penalty will be added for the entire overdue period. That means registrations due at the end of March will have seven months of penalties tacked on to the original bill.
Registrations can be renewed in Trigg County’s Clerk office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays. If you feel uncomfortable coming in, feel free to use the Drive-Through window or mail your payment to P.O. Box 1310, Cadiz, KY 42211.
When renewing your registration, be sure to bring (or send):
- Kentucky certificate of registration
- Current original proof of Kentucky insurance effective date within 45 days of the date you renew your registration.
- Money for fees and applicable taxes in the form of cash, check, or debit or credit card. There is an additional fee to use a debit or credit card.
Kentuckians may also renew registrations for vehicles, trailers, and campers online at drive.ky.gov or by mail. Boats may be renewed in-person at county clerk offices or through the mail. Disabled parking placards must be renewed in-person.
