Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray signed an emergency order Monday temporarily suspending certain motor carriers’ restrictions, who will be restoring power and clearing debris in Louisiana and other areas hit by Tropical Storm Zeta.
The order effective through 11:01 p.m. Saturday, November 14, for western Kentucky, temporarily relieves commercial drivers from maximum driving times and weigh station stops if responding to affected areas. The order could be extended, according to Gray.
The order authorizes the Transportation Cabinet’s Department of Vehicle Regulation to waive permit fees for overweight/over-dimensional vehicles. To ensure the traveling public’s safety, carriers must comply with safety requirements and have a copy of the order in the truck cab if operating under the authority of an official order.
