For the second week in a row, the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department will limit activity at its indoor facilities, due to a steady uptick in local COVID-19 cases and the county continuing to be in a ‘red zone’ status within the state’s Incidence Rate map.
Sportsplex Marketing Director Chris Jung says the rollback has been in place since Monday, November 9, and will continue until further notice.
According to Jung, open gym sessions, classes, events, rentals, and gatherings at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex and Thomas Street Recreation Center will cease for at least one more week. He says with the guidance of the Christian County Health Department and local officials, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation will continue to evaluate these closures on a weekly basis.
Jung adds the Sportsplex will still allow walking from 8 a.m. until Noon each weekday, as well as socially-distanced batting cages for baseball, softball, and golf. To make reservations for cages, which will be limited, call (270) 985-1700. He says masks and face coverings will be required for all visitors at all times.
In addition, Jung says outdoor facilities, such as the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail, the Skatepark, Dog Park, and Tie Breaker Athletic Park Walking Trail, will remain open as usual., with health department guidelines and recommendations remaining in place.
