Hopkinsville City Council members approved a grant agreement and incentives for a factory that announced Tuesday it would be expanding its Christian County location.
Governor Andy Beshear announced that Stanley Engineered Fastening plans to create more Christian County jobs with a $6 million expansion. Beshear said the company, a part of Stanley Black & Decker, plans to add 30,000 square feet to their existing Pembroke Road facility. The expansion will create at least 49 full-time jobs.
During the city council meeting Tuesday night, the council was presented with two municipal orders that dealt with Stanley Engineered Fastening. A grant agreement of $294,000 was approved.
Newly sworn-in councilman Chuck Crabtree asked Mayor Wendell Lynch how they could make these incentives available for smaller businesses. Lynch said some of those opportunities already exist.
Council also approved a tax incentive of a 100-percent property tax rebate for the next five years. City Clerk Crissy Fletcher read the municipal order to council members.
Both action items were approved unanimously by the council.
Construction on the expansion at Stanley Engineered Fastening is expected to begin next month and wrap up by the summer of 2021.
