Beshear To Request Double Amount Of Vaccine From Feds

Governor Andy Beshear will be requesting twice the amount of vaccines from the federal government next week after receiving nearly 50-percent less than last week.

Beshear said Kentucky dispensed 83,212 doses of the vaccines last week. He said the state will only receive 56,175 doses next week.

click to download audioPublic Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said more than 1,500 sites in Kentucky want to open up as vaccine sites, but there’s not enough vaccine available to properly supply them.

Dr. Stack said it’s been challenging to get people 70 and older vaccinated because it is the largest rollout group. He did say ten counties have completed the vaccination of its K-12 school personnel.

Adam Mather of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services said all skilled nursing facilities in the state and nearly two-thirds of assisted living facilities in the state have been given their first shot through the federal program administered through Walgreens and CVS.
