The Christian County Health Department reported five new deaths Tuesday linked to COVID-19.
Tuesday morning, health department officials said a 66-year-old female and a 72-year-old male died with the virus.
A few hours later, the health department confirmed three more deaths — an 89-year-old male, a 71-year-old female, and an 87-year-old female. Each person had underlying health conditions.
The five deaths are the most reported in a 24-hour period in Christian County since November 24. To date, 74 Christian Countians have lost their lives after coming down with the coronavirus. Christian County ranks eighth in the state in total COVID deaths, according to the state’s COVID-19 reporting website.
On Tuesday, the health department reported 64 new cases of COVID-19 with the 541 active cases the fewest since January 1. The number of people infected in the 22 to 59 age group decreased by 100 compared to Monday while there were 15 fewer cases in the 21 and under age group.
