The Christian County Grand Jury indicted a Hopkinsville man on an assault charge after an incident on December 26 that led to a man being stabbed several times on South Main Street.
The grand jury indicted 53-year-old John Thomas Chambers on a charge of first-degree assault. Hopkinsville Police said Chambers stabbed a man several times in the arm at the Manhattan Motel. The man was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Upon being taken into custody at his apartment, police found blood on his hands and pants.
Also, 47-year-old Yvette R. Simpson, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on first-degree strangulation and second-degree robbery charges. Hopkinsville Police arrested Simpson on those charges in the early morning hours of January 11, after she reportedly put her knee on of her boyfriend’s neck then took his wallet, money, and his vehicle before leaving during a fight about money.
Police add Simpson returned to the home parking in the neighbor’s driveway as police talked with her boyfriend. Simpson reportedly told police she had not stolen anything and had just gone to the store. A search of Simpson’s jacket revealed the victim’s wallet.
The grand jury also indicted 21-year-old Jacob Christopher Gary, of Hopkinsville, on charges of second-degree burglary and third-degree terroristic threatening. The charges came after Hopkinsville Police arrested him on December 24. Police said Gary went to a home on Middle Street he had previously been given a trespass warning to stay away from. While at the home, police add he got into a fight with a woman, took her phone, and told her if she called the police, he would kill her. He was arrested on East 1st Street.
