Man Steals Vehicle After Wreck

A man reportedly stole a witnesses vehicle after wrecking his on Cadiz Road in Christian County Monday night.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say 45-year-old Timothy Wharton was westbound on Cadiz Road near Everett Lane when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to go into the median and overturn before coming to a rest in the roadway.

Deputies say Wharton told witnesses at the scene of the wreck someone was going to kill him.

Wharton reportedly got into the witnesses vehicle as she was calling for police and stole it, he was located in the stolen vehicle and fled from the police before stopping on East 3rd Street in Hopkinsville.

Deputies say a woman that was also in the vehicle at the time of the wreck had to be extricated from the vehicle and she was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.

Wharton is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, theft, DUI, second-degree disorderly conduct, and first-degree fleeing or evading police. The crash happened just before 8 pm.
