A former superintendent of Christian County Public Schools passed away Tuesday.
Dr. Bob Lovingood, who served as the superintendent from 2001 to 2008, was 73-years old. During his tenure as superintendent, he oversaw the construction of two schools in the district — South Christian Elementary and Martin Luther King Junior Elementary. Lovingood resigned from the district with one year remaining on his contract in 2008.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Christian County Superintendent Chris Bentzel offered condolences to the Lovingood family and said the district was honored to be served by him during his time at Christian County.
Before coming to Hopkinsville, Lovingood served as superintendent of the Monroe County School System where he returned after leaving Christian County to serve as a school board member after leaving Christian County. He had served as mayor Vonore, a community of 1,500 people near the North Carolina border, since 2014.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at Hopewell Springs Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday afternoon from 4:00 until 8:00 at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville.
