Authorities have released the name of a man that was killed in a home invasion on South Vine Street in Hopkinsville Thursday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say the preliminary investigation revealed 56-year-old Columbus Mcgee forced his way into the home armed with a gun and got into a fight with the homeowner.
During the fight, the owner reportedly choked Mcgee and was hit several times with the gun before it discharged.
Mcgee was allegedly found deceased inside the home when police arrived.
The homeowner was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for head injuries.
It is unclear at this time if Mcgee was shot when the gun went off during the fight. The incident happened just after midnight.
