Community Rejoices As Christian County Senior Center Reopens

After nearly eighteen months, the Christian County Senior Citizens Center reopened Thursday morning to serve some of the county’s most beloved residents.

The center was damaged by straight-line winds and rain on January 11, 2020, and was closed throughout the pandemic. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, magistrate Mark Cansler said the Christian County Fiscal Court-owned facility was able to complete some much-needed improvements.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch said the ribbon cutting and reopening of the facility is evidence that nothing can hold the community back.

Senior Advisory Council chairman Kelly Martin said the facility is beautiful, and it’s great to be back.

Mike Foster provided a brief history on how the Christian County Senior Citizens Center and the Westwood and Foster Senior Homes came to be on West 7th Street. Center Director Rossia Schneider also took a second to welcome everyone to the facility after the time away.

Following the ribbon-cutting, seniors in attendance had the chance to eat breakfast and catch up with friends, many of which they had not seen for over fifteen months when the senior center was temporarily housed in the former Christian County Middle School.
