Reports indicate an effort could begin Monday to help the crew of the American Jazz Riverboat free the vessel from the mud that the ship is stuck in near Heron Point.
Reports from a property owner near Heron Point indicates a boat with a water jet is on the way to where the boat is lodged. The water jet will dredge away the mud which will hopefully allow the vessel to move over the mud flat and continue the trip to Nashville. The vessel is expected to arrive Monday.
The U.S. Coast Guard has established a safe zone around the American Jazz to protect those working to move the riverboat.
The American Jazz has been stuck on the mudflat since Wednesday. The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to investigate the accident. 120 passengers and six non-essential crew members were escorted from the boat to waiting buses then driven to Nashville Friday evening. The riverboat was traveling from Memphis to Nashville.
