School Officials Urged To Consider All Options During Consolidation Forum

Community members are encouraging Christian County School officials to consider all options before deciding to consolidate Hopkinsville and Christian County High Schools.

During the third school forum at South Christian Elementary School Thursday night Superintendent Chris Bentzel, Operations Director Josh Hunt, and Director of Instruction Jessica Addison presented information about the proposed consolidation prior to public comments. Bentzel says we need to do what is best for students, noting he will have children impacted by the decision.

Clayton encouraged the board to delay a vote that he has heard could come in the next few weeks.

Past Christian County Chamber Military Affairs Committee Chairman Bill Chaudoin encouraged school officials to consider a facility in the southern portion of the county to foster growth from Fort Campbell.

Among the reasons cited by Chaudoin was the amount of time it takes members of the military to take children to extracurricular activities at one of the high schools.

And community member Caleb Ballard says he thinks the board and the Christian County School District need to consider all options instead of only proposing a consolidated high school.

The forum was held in the South Christian Elementary gym and was aired on the Christian County Schools website.
