Trigg County Chamber of Commerce officials have announced that due to rising COVID cases in the county, the annual Ham Festival breakfast has been canceled.
Chamber Membership Director Beth Sumner told the News Edge Wednesday afternoon the decision was made to cancel the breakfast because they feel it’s best under the circumstances but adds they will still host the Ham Festival recognition ceremony.
She adds it was important for them to be proactive to cancel the breakfast.
Sumner is encouraging the public to attend the recognition ceremony on October 7th in downtown Cadiz.
Despite the cancellation of the breakfast, the 2021 Country Ham Festival is still a go. Cadiz Mayor Todd King said at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that if they were to cancel the Ham Festival, the decision would happen in the next two weeks.
The Ham Festival is set for Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9th.
The first ham festival was held in 1977 and was the brainchild of the Trigg County Extension Office. Despite rain hampering past festivals, 2020 marked the first time the entire festival was canceled which was due the COVID-19 pandemic.
