High school students in the Christian County Public Schools started receiving letters from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and its executive director, DeeAnna Sova, earlier this week — offering them a chance at a library card for virtual services.
During Tuesday morning’s Christian County Fiscal Court update, Sova said it was a process that began nearly three years ago and would’ve been implemented prior to the 2020-21 school year, but complications — namely COVID-19 — got in the way.
Now, the need for virtual services is as great as it has ever been, though this project’s origination doesn’t stem from the pandemic.

COVID-19, however, has continued its surge well into this fall after a summer hiatus, and Sova said there were more than 100 students in the Virtual Learning Academy — and that library resources being available online only provided a strong apparatus for the computer classroom.

Sova noted a four-year partnership with First Financial Bank made this initiative possible, and that some of the first virtual library cards have already been mailed out to some students.
