Jennie Stuart Medical Center announced Friday afternoon that nearly a dozen Kentucky National Guard members will begin providing non-clinical assistance at the hospital beginning Monday morning as the healthcare facility continues to navigate a surge of COVID-19 patients.
Spokesman Chris Jung with Jennie Stuart Health says Governor Andy Beshear deployed Kentucky National Guard soldiers to over 20 state hospitals back on September 13 to provide support and assume non-medical, logistical and administrative tasks to alleviate the pandemic’s stress on the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
According to Jung, the 11 assigned Guard members will be dressed in their duty uniform and will provide similar assistance during a stay in Hopkinsville that is scheduled to last about two weeks. He says their mission will be to provide non-clinical support to multiple departments within the organization.
Jung indicates National Guard soldiers must follow specific guidelines during their time at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. He says the men and women on-site will not be able to act as security, are not allowed to provide direct patient care and may not come in contact with a known COVID patient.
