A community meeting concerning the proposed beef processing facility will be held Tuesday, October 12, at the Chrisitian County Extension Office on Pembroke Road in Hopkinsville.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 in the meeting room at the extension office. Organizers tell the News Edge the meeting is being held to allow the public to learn more about the proposed beef processing facility that could be located on land off John Rives Road near Pembroke. Anyone who has questions or wants to discuss the proposed facility is welcome to attend.
Hopkinsville Chronicle reports representatives of American Food Groups met with local officials during an unannounced meeting at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport Thursday. The proposed 500,000 square foot facility would house a beef processing facility that would harvest several hundred head of cattle per day. The facility would likely operate two shifts to harvest the animals and a third shift to clean the facility and ensure it was operating safely. The company could employ as many as 1,300 workers to staff the facility.
Economic Development officials have declined to name the company that is proposing to build the facility, but have said it is family owned and the fifth largest beef processor in the United States.
