A Hopkinsville man was charged Thursday afternoon with theft after an investigation into checks deposited into his account.
Hopkinsville Police say from June to July 63-year-old Darryl Hawkins deposited three checks for $5,500 each into his account from a fake account at another bank.
Hawkins was reportedly able to withdraw the money quickly before the bank was able to realize the checks were fraudulent.
Police say he also attempted to deposit another check for $8,500 but the bank denied the deposit. He is charged with three counts of theft by deception.
